Tony Drury, delighted to have not only been asked along to take part in the judging process for a short story competition recently, was also pleased to have been asked to present the children with their prizes yesterday.

The competition, which involved children from Year 5 to Year 8 from Brooklands Middle School in Leighton Buzzard, was organised by Leighton Buzzard based magazine company Events & Venues Editorial Coordinator Amanda Harrison E & V facebook page

City Fiction, one of the main sponsors of the competition, contributed to each winner/runner up and overall winner goody bag across all years – 5, 6, 7 and 8 – by providing £15 worth of WHSmith’s vouchers for each winner and some colouring pens to add to the growing number of items in the goody bags for runners up. In addition, as an Ambassador for HEART UK, Tony was able to use the opportunity to raise awareness of Cholesterol by way of HEART UK balloons and relevant literature.

Tony said “The creative talent we experienced when judging the entries is a credit both to the school and its pupils”.

Cathy Wright, Marketing Director for City Fiction, said “Supporting schools in the community is important to us. We are engaging with young creative writers either via short story competitions or via the creative writing master classes which Tony runs when he has been invited into schools.”
